Our History

2010
The Global Nail Design competition was founded by the talented Viv Clements-Simmonds. What began as a single event quickly evolved into an internationally celebrated competition, drawing gifted nail technicians from around the globe. With a respected judging panel and an ever-growing following, GNDA soon expanded into a dynamic event featuring expos and other nail-focused ventures.

2019
When the COVID pandemic hit, the nail industry came to a sudden halt. Along with it, we lost treasured events like GNDA—and more than that, we lost momentum, connection, and a great deal of collective knowledge as many techs moved on to new paths.

2022
Viv passed the torch to Sandra Smith, who brought with her a fresh wave of excitement and determination to revive GNDA. For two years, she worked to reintroduce the competition to the industry—rebuilding awareness and giving nail professionals something meaningful to look forward to once more.

2024
Sandra decided it was time for a new chapter in her journey. That’s where I come in.
After watching me jump headfirst into the competition world, Sandra knew GNDA was ready for its next evolution—and she entrusted it to me with full confidence that I would carry its legacy forward and captivate a new generation of artists.

Global Nail Design Awards carries with it a rich history, forged by passion, excellence, and community. My mission is to honour its past while reigniting its future—bringing together modern trends and timeless techniques, bridging the gap between old-school skill and new-age creativity.
